Legion Memorial Field
East Weymouth, MA
A long-underused community asset has been transformed into a vibrant, multi-generational recreation hub. Once a filled marsh and former home field for Weymouth High School, Legion Memorial Field had fallen into decades of limited use and deterioration. The Town’s revitalization effort reimagined the site with new athletics facilities, expanded parking, accessible pathways, and family-friendly amenities.
Rebuilding a Community Recreation Anchor
Samiotes provided full civil engineering, land surveying, and environmental permitting services to support the comprehensive site redevelopment. Key contributions included:
-
Converting former tennis courts into an 85-space parking lot with a new, clearly defined field entry
-
Civil support to construct five new tennis courts and a multi-purpose synthetic turf field, plus new playgrounds, walking and running paths, and a multi-use restroom facilities building
-
Developing stormwater management strategies tailored to a site with historic inundated bog/marsh conditions
-
Guiding extensive environmental permitting with the Weymouth Conservation Commission for all turf, site, and wetland-adjacent improvements
Through resilient design and careful regulatory coordination, Samiotes helped return Legion Memorial Field to its role as a central, accessible, and well-loved recreational destination for the Weymouth community.
