Jim Rice Field at Ramsey Park

Roxbury, MA

A community-driven recreation project with big-league heart, Jim Rice Field at Ramsey Park brings a Fenway Park–inspired ballfield to Roxbury. Delivered through Major League Baseball’s RBI Program (Reviving Baseball in the Inner City), the project transformed an underutilized urban space into a vibrant, youth-focused athletic venue—completed on a remarkably fast-track schedule to coincide with the 1999 MLB All-Star Game.

Building a Big-League Experience for Local Youth
Samiotes Consultants donated all civil engineering services for this flagship community project. Key efforts included:

  • Full civil site design for a Fenway Park replica field, tailored to a compact urban site

  • Accelerated design and construction coordination, delivering the project in just 2.5 months

  • Collaboration with HOK Architects, the City of Boston, MLB, the Boston Red Sox, and the South-End Baseball Program to support RBI’s mission

  • Permitting coordination and approvals with Boston Water and Sewer Commission

  • Led and coordinated Dunkin’ Donuts sponsored scoreboard donation.

The result is a beloved neighborhood asset—rooted in baseball tradition and built to expand access, opportunity, and community pride for Boston youth.
