Dean College

Franklin

Samiotes has provided civil engineering and environmental permitting for Boston College on both the Chestnut Hill and Newton campuses. Services entailed gaining numerous municipal and state approvals, work on multiple master plans, developing a water conservation program, and numerous meetings with neighborhood groups and associations. We also provided soil erosion and sediment control implementation, stormwater mitigation and management design, site grading and layout design, utility design (often with the requirement to maintain the existing utilities), campus roadway design, and construction administration.

The most complex project was the civil engineering design for the renovation / expansion of the 45,000- seat Alumni Stadium, which entailed a unique, economical approach to the drainage of the field and the lower stands. The design approvals had a rigorous evaluation of the existing infrastructure (especially water), to accommodate the proposed expansion. Approvals included the civil engineering portion of the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) filing. The construction was on a “fast track”, summer schedule in order to be completed for the opening game. Subsequently, Samiotes also provided the civil engineering design for the football bubble, used by the athletic department to practice in Alumni Stadium during the winter months. The foundation for this bubble required rerouting many utilities inside the fixed area of the existing playing field and sidelines.
