The Groton School
Groton, MA
The Groton School is a private school founded in 1884 in Groton, Massachusetts. Samiotes has been a trusted partner on numerous design teams for projects across this historic, Olmsted-planned campus — from academic and arts facilities to housing, infrastructure, and athletic improvements.
Preserving Tradition, Advancing Infrastructure
Over the years, Samiotes has contributed civil engineering and permitting expertise to projects including the Campbell Performing Arts Center, the new Visual Arts Building, Buildings and Grounds Offices, Graves House renovation, Boathouse expansion, faculty housing, daycare center, Brooks House dormitory, and the headmaster’s residence. Our team also played a key role in shaping the Master Plan approvals strategy, identifying infrastructure issues and coordinating with multiple agencies such as MEPA, the Groton Conservation Commission, the Groton Planning Board, the Groton Historic Commission, and local building and water departments.
The Performing Arts Center highlights the balance of historic preservation and modern function. The 450-seat proscenium theater integrates advanced rigging, lighting, audiovisual systems, and an orchestra pit. Site engineering included relocating the historic main gates, rerouting Shirley Road, and mitigating construction impacts on a wooded site, ensuring both continuity and sensitivity to the campus’s historic character.
