Saugus Middle High School

Saugus, MA

The combined Middle and High School was constructed in Saugus, as part of the town-wide master planning efforts for education. The new building design, which includes 271,000 square feet of bright and flexible spaces designed to support the STEM-based curriculum, earned a LEED Platinum certification (making it the first MSBA-funded LEED Platinum School for leading in design excellence, efficiency, and sustainability among other notable features.

The scope of work for Samiotes included civil engineering, environmental permitting, and land surveying for the MEPA Filing, NOI permitting, and all components of the design and filings. Samiotes’ civil engineers and land surveyors overcame such challenges as the sites’ location (adjacent to busy Route 1 in Saugus, businesses, and several tight neighborhoods), undocumented utilities including a sewer line relocation, proximity to wetlands, environmental permitting and construction around the existing school which remained open and occupied during construction.
