Worcester Polytechnic Institute,
Campus Quad & Wedge Triangle

Worcester, MA

Samiotes provided civil engineering services for the improvements to the Campus Quad and Wedge Terrace at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester. Renovations to the 2.75-acres of open space provided a much-needed gathering space for students with brick pathways and a large dining terrace area.

Our scope included a Soil Erosion and Sediment Control plan, review of vehicular layout and materials and grading design provided by Landscape Architect, design of an irrigation system from an existing water system on site, design of a subsurface / underdrain system to help mitigate standing water and drainage issues in the existing Quad area (that is used for graduation), and design of a new stormwater management system to accommodate storm events as required by the City of Worcester. The underdrainage system at the lawn diverts storm water to an underground chamber which then slowly releases the water back into the subsurface.
