Bristol County Agricultural High School

The Bristol County Agricultural High School (Bristol Aggie) campus spans over 270-acres in Dighton adjacent to the Taunton River, and offers various unique programs based in agriculture and technology including agricultural mechanics, animal science, environmental engineering, animal science, floriculture, landscape design and natural resource management. The renewed design of the campus incorporated pedestrian accessible plazas, lawn amphitheater, hands-on growing areas, as well as, several new buildings, including a Dairy Barn, Center for Science and the Environment, Student Commons, Landscape/Arbor building, and provided renovations to the existing Gilbert Hall and Agricultural mechanics building. The project features several sustainable design elements, such as vegetated swales with gabion check dams for stormwater infiltration and meadows for lower water and maintenance inputs. The design (LEED® Gold) offers natural and thoughtful elements, such as timber framing, a green roof, solar panels, and other sustainable features to seamlessly connect the buildings to the natural environment.

Our scope of work for civil engineering and land surveying included grading, drainage, stormwater management, water and sewer design, and permitting for the project. Additionally, we provided research and data on water usage and fixtures (with the MEP) to illustrate water saving solutions for the campus. The school was ultimately able to decrease its water usage through composting toilets and other water conservation methods, while also increasing the student population.
