Bentley Ice Rink
Waltham, MA
Samiotes provided civil engineering, permitting, and site design for the construction of a 76,000-square-foot, 2,000-seat multipurpose arena that now serves as the home of Bentley University’s NCAA Division I hockey team. The facility includes an ice rink, locker rooms, a weight room, a sports medicine center, and flexible gathering spaces for seminars, concerts, and guest speakers.
A National First in Sustainable Ice Arenas
Samiotes’ scope included site grading, vehicular hardscape design, stormwater management, utility services, and environmental and zoning permitting, as well as LEED integration. The new arena became the first standalone ice facility in the United States to achieve LEED Platinum certification, setting a national precedent for sustainable design in collegiate athletics.
